University of Illinois at Chicago
In order to achieve Climate Action Plan goals, the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy developed UIC Climate Commitments, setting forth recommendations in four key areas, carbon neutrality, zero waste, net zero water and biodiversity.
UIC Office of Sustainability and SIP student Ula Renetskis, with the help of Bright Beat and FamilyFarmed, created a Zero Waste Event Planning Guide to aid event organizers and help realize the university’s commitment to Zero Waste.

Goose Island Beer Company
Goose Island symbolizes Chicago, and sustainability, thanks to their advancements in water and energy efficiency, synergies in byproduct reuse, improvements in management of solid waste, activities within the community, all while riding their bikes a ton and brewing great beer!
Soldier Field + Grateful Dead + Bright Beat
The Grateful Dead celebrated their 50th anniversary with a historic “Fare Thee Well” 3-show stand at Chicago’s Soldier Field. Bright Beat built a sustainability plan focused on strengthening event recycling, composting and food donation, designed to support a legacy of improved resource recovery at Soldier Field. In a weekend with record-breaking attendance and beer sales, their collaborative efforts diverted over 98 TONS of waste, achieving 49% DIVERSION – a 30% increase from the venue’s average recycling rate.
Forest Preserves of Cook County
Since it’s inception over a hundred year ago, the Forest Preserves of Cook County’s mission has been to provide much needed natural respite from the pressures associated with living in the second most populous county in the nation and to advocate for the protection of nature. This mission drives the Forest preserve to consider the impacts of climate change, not just on it’s lands, but also on the communities that it is part of, and the planet. This Sustainability & Climate Resiliency Plan was developed to harness the various strengths within th Forest Preserves to address the pressing environmental issues of our time. Climate change, pollution, invasive species, and habitat loss and fragmentation are threatening the health of our natural spaces, as well as global ecosystems, and the Forest Preserve is dedicated to implementing responsible practices to mitigate these environmental stressors. The Forest Preserve is committed to ensuring that our native landscapes continue to thrive for generations to come.
